My Approach

My approach is to help you come up with concrete solutions in order to get you feeling better as soon as possible. I usually will suggest a goal after the first session. Maybe that's too soon, and if it is, just tell me that up front.

My approach is very solution focused, because I tried the "I'm the Wizard of Oz" method of counseling, and I feel it does a huge disservice to you as a client. It basically says "Just tell me your problems, I'll ask you how you feel about that, and cross my fingers and hope you'll come up with the solution on your own." To me, that is NOT therapy. That's like going to a doctor, and after weeks of hearing your problems and running tests, he basically asks you what you think is wrong with you. He has his own diagnosis in mind, but doesn't want to tell you for fear that you will become the diagnosis, and put your identity into it. With the age of the internet, most people have researched what they think is wrong with them, and many are ready to get started toward improvement. I love working with people like that!

I've been happily married for the last 5 years to a beautiful woman who lights up my life in ways that make me feel glad to be alive! We've had our share of ups and downs, but I think we've figured out a thing or two about relationships. I wear it like a badge on my sleeve, and feel as though I have learned what it takes to make a marriage work.

Counseling Specialties

1. Christian Counseling - I have specific training for this (and I'm a Christian).

2. Relationship and Couples Counseling - I have a good relationship, and I've had my fair share of bad relationships. I know what works and what doesn't. Trial and error. 'Nuf said. :)

3. Child and Adolescent Counseling - I get along with teenagers and kids, simply because I understand where they're coming from. I keep on top of technology too, which can be a really good asset to parents who need to stay one step ahead of their kids.

4. Anxiety Management - I used to suffer from anxiety attacks, and through the grace of God, I figured out a number of tools to use to reduce and eliminate anxious feelings.

This is what I have to offer you. Any questions? Just call and ask. You don't have to set up an appointment with me to talk to me. If I'm not in session, or otherwise busy, I will answer my phone.
